An Animated Look At Autism

Owen Suskind has autism and uses Disney films to help make sense of his world. Nonverbal at age 3, Owen was an avid viewer of the films, and his family discovered they were the key to restoring communication. A new documentary, “Life, Animated,” is based on the bestselling book by Owen’s father, and begins its run in local theaters July 1.   • Angel City Games

    This competition is for people with physical disabilities. 8 a.m.-5 p.m. July 7-10, UCLA Drake Stadium. $20-$40 for athletes, free for competitors.


  • Club 21 D.A.D.S.

    Dads meet every second Monday to share about the unique challenges of raising a child with Down syndrome. 7 p.m. July 11, Du Pars, Pasadena. Free.

  • College 2 Career
    Orientation

    Adults with disabilities can learn about this program, an experience with community college life. 6-8 p.m. July 11, Long Beach City College. Free.


  • Brandon’s Buddies
    Play Date

    Integrated play for kids with and without disabilities on an accessible playground. 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 9, Gates Canyon Park, Calabasas. Free.

  • DSALA Teen and Young Adult Social Club

    This month, the social group for teens and adults with Down syndrome meets for a fun movie night. 3-5 p.m. July 23, DSALA office, Van Nuys. Free.
