Learning, Friendship, and Fun at Marlborough Summer
With new offerings and perennial favorites, Marlborough’s 2019 summer program brings together the activities, arts, and academics that will help kids (and their parents) create the perfect summer day.
Home to 530 middle and high school girls during the school year, Marlborough has been opening its doors in the summer months to boys and girls for decades. The school first extended its summer programming to the greater community in the 1980s, continually expanding its offerings over the years to include a wider range of classes and activities each summer. As the campus grew and expanded, so did the summer fun, incorporating the school’s new aquatics center, field, tennis courts, fitness center, and now the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which opened in the fall of 2018.
Marlborough Summer’s 2019 catalog went live on February 15, and registration opens March 1. Below is an overview of the offerings, but to best familiarize yourself with everything they have available, which includes over 175 different classes, options for kindergarten through grade 12, and adult and family enrichment, visit marlboroughsummer.org.
Camp Mustang
If you have a kindergartener or first grader, this program is perfect for you. Students are closely supervised as they move through the four-hour morning program (which can include a 45-minute swim lesson) and the optional afternoon program, which allows families to add two afternoon “electives” to their child’s daily schedule.
Classic Summer Program
Students in grades two and above enroll in Marlborough’s Classic Summer Program, which allows them to choose from over 175 different classes for the five-weeks. Classes may be chosen starting during the 8:00 a.m. hour and continue until 2:45 p.m. Students may opt to stay only for the morning sessions or may come only for the afternoon sessions. After care is also available from 2:45-5:00 p.m.
Sports Camps and Workshops
During the weeks of June 10 and June 17, Marlborough Summer is offering a number of sports camps (in volleyball, baseball/softball, and basketball), as well as workshops in the arts, STEM, and our popular Leadership Week for Girls. Dates and enrollment of these workshops vary, so be sure to check the schedule for details.
Classes for Credit
If your high schooler wants to be extra productive with his or her summer hours, Athletic Conditioning and Geometry are available for credit for non-Marlborough students.
Adult & Family Enrichment
Whether you’re looking to spend some time together as a family, or want to pursue your own interests without the kids, these new classes in ceramics, infant and child CPR, bookmaking, and more are a great addition to your summer schedule.
Finally, although they have already reached capacity for 2019, it’s worth mentioning that Marlborough Summer is taking a trip to Alaska in 2019. Accompanied by Marlborough School faculty, student travelers will voyage through southwest Alaska, climbing glaciers, seeing brown bears, and taking in the seeming endless summer light. Students will explore a research question of their choosing, through a medium in which they’d like to dive deeper.
