For as long as I can remember my family and I have traded L.A. sun for Palm Springs sun when we wanted a change of pace, but not weather. Our desert neighbors, Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Joshua Tree are truly family friendly as they are just as fun with or without kids. But it took having kids for me to explore all the desert has to offer, like The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens located in Palm Desert. On March 27 The Living Desert is opening a brand-new illuminated experience, “Glow in the Park: A Spring Lantern Festival,” which will run nightly through April 29.
The larger-than-life illuminated experience is produced in partnership with Tianyu Arts and Culture, Inc., the largest Chinese lantern festival producer in North America. The Living Desert will come alive with beautiful, intricate and immersive animal and nature-scape lantern creations representing wild places from around the world. The installations are inspired by universal themes like renewal, friendship and good fortune. “Glow in the Park” will feature traditional, hand-crafted Chinese lanterns, engaging art installations, lighted pathways and plenty of photo opportunities.
“Glow in the Park will be unlike anything we’ve ever had at The Living Desert, and different from other light festivals in Southern California,” said Allen Monroe, CEO/President of The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. “Guests will be able to watch the desert come alive with spectacular installations that are sure to delight those of all ages. We’re excited for everyone to see us in a whole new light.”
“Glow in the Park” will be open nightly, March 27 through April 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and require advanced reservations. The Living Desert is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission is $17.95 – $29.95. “Glow in the Dark” admission is $16.95 – $24.95. Children under 3 are free.
