Cirque du Soleil’s 41st production, “Volta,” is an exciting combination of the old and the new. The show, on one hand, offers a vibrant array of the sensational acrobatic feats and spectacular visual design that people have come to expect from Cirque.
“Volta,” however, also displays imaginative, never-before-seen Soleil stunts. The fast-paced action was inspired by today’s street sports scene – from dynamic Double Dutch rope tricks to a full-size BMX park that is the backdrop for the fantastic finale.
The show’s name holds dual meanings. The electrifying production is named after the inventor of the first electric battery, Alessandro Volta. Volta also is a term used in poetry to refer to a sudden change of emotion, tying in with the show’s themes of self-discovery and transformation.
Performances will take place Jan. 18-March 8 at Dodger Stadium, then move to the OC Fairgrounds March 18-April 19. Tickets, $49-$150, are available at cirquedusoleil.com.
