8 p.m. Dec. 6-7, 11, 13-14. In the Pacific Opera Project’s production of “La bohème” (aka “The Hipsters”), the original’s 1830’s Parisian garret setting has been re-conceived Puccini’s famous opera as a present day Los Angeles loft apartment. No longer a artist, poet, philosopher, musician, and seamstress the characters now are the artist, poet, philosopher, musician, and seamstress, they are now a graphic designer, screenplay writer, English major, indie-rocker, and fashion designer, who are dealing with the timeless issues of life, love, jealousy, and overdue bills. The opera is sung in Italian with projected “cleverly ironic” English titles. Reservations are highly suggested for this production, which is described as having a PG-13 tone.
