Lunar New Year is the new year according to the lunisolar calendar. Many Asian communities observe the Lunar New Year with festive foods, parades, parties and more. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite Lunar New Year celebrations and activities, from lion dancers, arts and crafts, delicious food and more.
Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure Park

2024 Monterey Park Lunar New Year Festival
10:00am – 9:00pm Sat, Jan 27 – 28 | Downtown Monterey Park
Celebrate the year of the dragon with The City of Monterey Park with a weekend of entertainment, food, family activities and vendors.
Monterey Park’s Lunar New Year festival features vendors offering unique gifts and specialty items, food booths with various types of delectable items, amusement rides, and lots of live entertainment. The traditional New Year lion and dragon dancers will kick off the festival Saturday morning. Various types of entertainment will be featured on both days. A carnival fun zone will be featured in parking lots at the corner of Garvey and Lincoln Avenues.

Stop by the Octavia Lab to celebrate the Lunar New Year and assemble a festive lantern. Lab staff have designed a lantern that highlights The Year of the Dragon. The program begins with a demonstration of how the individual parts of the lantern are made. This is then followed by a hands-on, in-person activity where participants will assemble their own lanterns.
This special program is one of many at the Lunar New Year Celebration at Central Library.
Lunar New Year Celebration at South Coast Botanic Garden

South Coast Botanic Garden is bringing back its Lunar New Year Celebration for a second year, with some new twists that will make it even bigger! Our winter blooms and green foliage are a picture-perfect backdrop to usher in the Year of the Dragon, complete with red lanterns and festive activities throughout the entire month of February. Every Saturday and Sunday, the Garden will host two 30-minute live performances – at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Both shows will feature the same types of performances including lion dancers, folk dancers and drummers. There will also be all-day activations taking place on the Lower Meadow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as well as classes that can be purchased for an additional fee.
