Looking for something fun to do with the family this spring break? Try a visit to a flower field or garden to experience the incredible spring blooms happening all over SoCal thanks to the recent rains. From California poppies to daffodils, we’ve rounded up five of our favorite spots to catch some spring colors.
- Temecula Valley Wineries
Plan a day trip to Temecula Valley to see the stunning Wisteria trees, blooming in purples, pinks and whites throughout April and May. The cascading vines cover patios, walkways and gardens at the many Temecula Valley Wineries including South Coast Winery Resort & Spa, Somerset Winery, and more.
2. Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve
Hike 8 miles of trails through golden hills covered in our state flower at Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve in Lancaster. Orange and yellow California poppies, in addition to California goldfields, bloom from February through May. Check the Poppy Reserve Live Feed for updates. $5-$10 per vehicle.
3. Bloom! At South Coast Botanic Garden
Bring the family to this self-guided sensory experience at South Coast Botanic Garden this spring. Starting April 1, Bloom! visitors can stroll through different areas of the garden where newly planted flowers are beginning to blossom. Visit a little later in spring to see different flowers as new plants continue to bloom. $5-$15; free for members and children ages 4 and under.
4. Descanso Gardens
Keep an eye on Descanso Gardens’ bloom calendar to plan your visit to see a variety of spring blooms. Highlights at this urban oasis in La Cañada Flintridge include azaleas in the Japanese Garden, tulips along the Promenade and daffodils and magnolias throughout the gardens. Visit April 22-28 for a special Earth Day Native Blooms Display and April 26-27 for guided Spring Bloom Tours. $5-$15; free for members and children ages 4 and under.
5. The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch
Another day trip spot for breathtaking spring blooms, The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch features 55 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers. The colorful flowers are in bloom from March through early May. Other kid-friendly activities include Sweet Pea Maze, tractor wagon ride, butterfly garden and more. $14-$23; free for children ages 2 and under.
