The 64-year-old Sherman Oaks Mexican restaurant Casa Vega has been in current owner Christy Vega’s family throughout its history. Now, the mother of four has adapted its menu for a first: to-go service. Classic dishes, margaritas and pantry staples and essentials (paper towels, toilet paper) are now available for curbside pickup.
Can’t wait for their homemade tortilla chips and guacamole? No problem. Christy shared her recipe!
Casa Vega Guacamole with Homemade Tortilla Chips

Canola oil
12 corn tortillas, cut into quarters
3 avocados
½ cup chopped white onion
½ cup diced tomatoes
1 jalapeño pepper, minced
½ teaspoon salt
Squeeze of lime juice
Chopped cilantro to taste
For the tortilla chips, fill a large frying pan with canola oil until the oil is ½-inch deep. Heat on high heat until a corner of tortilla dipped in the oil sizzles. Add the tortilla pieces and fry, turning often, until lightly golden. Drain on paper towels before serving.
For the guacamole, peel, pit and mash the avocado. Add the salt and mash a little more. Next add the onion, tomato, jalapeño, lime juice and cilantro. Mix well. Serve right away.
Casa Vega is open for curbside pick-up from noon-8 p.m. daily. Order by phone at 818-788-4868 or online. Casa Vega staff place orders in diners’ trunks or backseats as they wait in the restaurant’s iconic driveway off Ventura Boulevard.
Favorites on the take-out menu include Combination Plates and Street Tacos, both served with rice and beans, Taquitos de Juan (chicken flautas), Burritos, four different Family Trays, Chips, Guacamole, Salsa and Kids Meals. In addition to beer and wine, Casa Vega offers its Classic Margarita in a single-serving mason jar with ice, ready to drink. The Classic Margarita is also available in a half-gallon size.
