Courtney Cowan opened Milk Jar Cookies on Wilshire Boulevard in 2013, selling treats she’d perfected through years of personal recipe testing. Cowan’s menu has expanded in the last decade and, like her signature quarter-pound cookies, her company has expanded, too: She recently opened a spacious second location in Encino Commons.
This may be the perfect family hang-out spot this summer for anyone with a sweet tooth. There’s ample seating inside the adorable shop, plus a patio with potted plants. Misters will cool the exterior seating area when temps rise. And if it’s extra hot, pair your favorite cookie with a scoop of ice cream by local ice cream maker Bloomfield Creamery.
While Milk Jar Cookies now offers a whopping 17 flavors, my family of four tends to order chocolate chip, cinnamon sugar and the “birthday cookie” dotted with crunchy rainbow nonpareils. Then we bring them home, cut them into quadrants and quibble over how to share them.
Visit milkjarcookies.com for your own sweet quandary.
