It’s hard to need another reason to visit beautiful Santa Monica, but just in case, the City of Santa Monica’s economic recovery initiative Art of Recovery has been hard at work connecting local artists with creative projects since launching in 2020, transforming some of the west side’s most iconic landmarks and public spaces into inspiring works of art. Not only do these works bring art to the community, but also jobs and networking opportunities.
The City’s Cultural Affairs team is implementing a new model to increase support for artists and projects that focus on economic recovery, community connectedness and restorative justice, and public health and safety. This new model will connect artists with a production partner. The first production partners of 2022 include Downtown Santa Monica, Ocean Park Association, Montana Avenue Merchants Association and 18th Street Arts Center. Cultural event producers Community Arts Resources and contemporary content creator Halline Overby will facilitate the production and documentation of Art of Recovery Projects.
A map of all past and current project locations can be found here, featuring over 20 artistic works throughout Santa Monica. Artists and arts and non-arts organizations are invited to submit a project concept online at bit.ly/SantaMonicaArtofRecovery.
