For the 15th year, Downtown San Pedro will host a family-friendly Día de Los Muertos Festival. Thousands are expected to gather for this traditional Mexican celebration that welcomes back the souls of their deceased relatives for a joyful reunion filled with food, music and remembrance. Downtown San Pedro hosts one of the region’s largest Día events, attracting more than 10,000 visitors the the closed-street fair on 6th Avenue in historic downtown San Pedro
This year’s celebration honors the monarch butterfly as a traditional Día symbol. The festival’s “Wings of Remembrance” artist installation will feature giant monarch butterflies at locations throughout the event footprint. Painted in vibrant colors and patterns by local artists and youth organizations, each giant monarch reminds us of the enduring connections between past and present generations and of our departed loved ones’ presence in our daily lives, embodied in one of nature’s most beautiful creatures.
