It’s never too early to go green. And after witnessing unprecedented fires and floods ravage our planet these last several years — and the most recent #climateemergency Twitter storm — even many who had their heads buried in the deepest sands are wondering what we can do today to reverse climate change.
The U.S. Green Building Council Los Angeles (USGBC-LA) believes that a vital place to start is with our children. Through its Green Schools initiative, USGBC-LA has successfully presented sustainability workshops to schools in the greater L.A. community, reaching more than 800 students during the first half of this year alone. By fostering the value and the necessity of sustainability to the youth, the organization strives to teach sustainable solutions and build more mindful citizens for our future.
The program offers training for schools, from elementary through high school, as well as opportunities for experts to lead workshops. USGBC-LA aims to also encourage children to enter “green careers” — from landscaping and gardening to engineering.
