New parents have many questions, and often turn to Google in their quest for answers. L.A.-based The Baby Box Co. and its global Baby Box University aim to supply information on parenting basics – and actual resources to help parents keep their babies comfortable and safe when theyare sleeping – in one handy package.
Inspired by a Finnish tradition, longtime friends Michelle Vick and Jennifer Clary created the company. The company’s “Baby Boxes” are fitted with firm foam pads and can be used as safe sleep spaces up to a baby’s first six months of life, depending on the weight of the child. They are made from durable cardboard and are certified to meet all safety standards for bassinets set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, ASTM International (a global standards organization) and the Health Canada and European Union Standard regulations. The boxes arrive filled with organic baby products.
Families can buy the boxes or register to get them for free by joining their Baby Box University(BBU) (babyboxuniversity.com), a free, online education platform for new and expecting parents. Developed in partnership with medical experts, BBU includes courses on topics related to pregnancy, safe sleep, breastfeeding, maternal mental health and parenthood, plus science-based activities for early childhood development.

The company recently kicked off a “Baby Box Truck Tour” in L.A., in partnership with a team of child and parenting health and wellness experts. “We consistently see that new parents are overjoyed and excited but also anxious as they enter parenthood,” says Nicole Samii, M.D., of Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. Samii says she is happy to share the Baby Box program with parents, so they know they have on-demand guidance and resources to help them navigate the weeks and months ahead.
