There have been several studies that point to the benefit of exposing children to music at an early age. An early appreciation for music can inspire creativity, stimulate brain development, and even promote emotional intelligence. Classical California, the largest classical station in the nation, harnesses the power of music into a brand new streaming service geared towards children ages 8-12, Glissando! This streaming platform features over eight hours of musical entertainment and storytelling broken down into 20-minute segments.
Engaging themes like “Outer Space,” “Superheroes,” “The Seasons,” “Summer Olympics,” “Fantasylands” and “Around the World,” are sure to tap into your child’s imagination. Young listeners can expect to hear classics such as Mendelssohn’s “Scherzo” from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Tchaikovsky’s “Waltz of the Flowers” from “The Nutcracker,” and Vivaldi’s “Summer” from “The Four Seasons.”
The streaming platform also includes instrumental takes on today’s favorites, including popular songs such as Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams,” Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy,” and BTS’s “IDOL,” and music from films like “Moana,” “Inside Out” and “Black Panther.” The new radio station is hosted by actor and musician, Suraj Partha, who believes classical music doesn’t have to sound “pretty,” but can be diverse and dynamic.
The new streaming platform will also include voice announcements and anecdotes from children that attend various art schools throughout California, including Riverside Arts Academy, USC’s Neighborhood Academic Initiative and more. Glissando is sure to provide an enriching creative experience and will soon become a favorite among parents and children alike.
Glissando will be available 24/7 on kdfc.com and kusc.org and the Classical California app.
