Getty’s family podcast brings museum objects to life through funny, imaginative stories designed to spark kids’ curiosity about art and history.
If museum objects could talk, what would a tiny flea on a microscope slide have to say? Or a traveling snail perched on a nearly nine-foot-tall bronze vase?
Kids can find out with Season 2 of the Getty Center’s award-winning family podcast, “If Objects Could Talk,” which brings objects from the Getty’s collection to life through funny, imaginative stories.
The new season explores objects from the Middle Ages through the late 19th century. The first episode, available now, is “hosted” by a teeny-tiny flea on the glass slide of a Rococo French microscope. Upcoming episodes feature a gossip-loving griffin perched on a chandelier, a gravity-defying bronze horse and an adventurous blue cat named Purrquoise, among other curious characters.
Season 1 focused on objects from the Getty Villa’s antiquities collection. Season 2 shifts the storytelling to the Getty Center’s sculpture and decorative arts collection.
It’s a playful way for kids and families to get curious about the stories behind museum objects — and maybe see the Getty’s collection a little differently the next time they visit.
