Los Angeles Union Station, in partnership with Metro, Amtrak and Metrolink, kicked off “Los Angeles Union Station Train Festival 2023: A Celebration of Past, Present & Future” on Sept. 9 and 10.
Metro COO Conan Cheung, Amtrak Vice President Jeanne Cantu, Metrolink CEO Darren Kettle and California High-Speed Rail Regional Director LaDonna DiCamillo encouraged attendees to enjoy the festivities ranging from vintage rail equipment on the tracks to rare model train displays in the historic Ticket Concourse of Union Station.
“Train Festival is a wonderful celebration of America’s most endearing mode of transportation — one that has endured and continues to be an essential means of transportation throughout the region for today and into the future,” Cheung said.
Cantu added: “This station represents a vital landmark to our community but it continues to welcome visitors every day to the heart of one of the greatest cities in America.”
Attendees were given access to view rail equipment on the tracks from various decades since the opening of the Station, marvel at the rarest of model train exhibits, participate in tours about the history, restoration and art throughout the building and experience other unique activities celebrating the legacy and future of Union Station and Southern California’s rail systems.
