Two Rancho Palos Verdes students are contestants in a new Disney Channel baking competition called “Disney’s Magic Bake Off.” The episode they compete in debuts at 8 p.m. on Sept. 17.
Leila Storr, 13, attends Ridgecrest Intermediate School, and Ashlyn Okada, also 13 and a student at Palos Verdes Intermediate School, were inspired by the epic adventures of “Toy Story” and set out to create cakes that soar and feature an anti-gravity element.
“Disney’s Magic Bake-Off,” a one-hour unscripted competitive series for Kids 6-14 combining the wonder of baking with the ingenuity of young pastry chefs. Multitalented stars Dara Reneé (“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”) and Issac Ryan Brown (“Raven’s Home”) co-host the series and, along with Disneyland resort pastry chef Graciela “Gracie” Gomez serving as baking judge, guide kid contestants through a series of fun challenges and surprises as they create the most extraordinary cakes inspired by the magic of Disney.
Disney’s casting team scoured the internet and found contestants on social media, through casting calls and word of mouth. Disney’s culinary team then met with the kids and assessed their baking skill levels to ensure the contestants were competing with teams of equal skill levels.
Disneyland Resort pastry chef and resident baking judge Gracie Gomez welcomes baking influencer Jocelyn Delk Adams to the magical kitchen to help name the next Disney Baking Champion.
The show was filmed on sound stage in Burbank. Disney’s Magic Bake-Off airs Friday evenings on Disney Channel and in the DisneyNOW app.
