Tuesday, April 22, marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, a global celebration that highlights the importance of protecting our planet. While eco-conscious habits should be part of our daily lives, Earth Day serves as a powerful reminder to care for the environment year-round. To help you celebrate with your family, we’ve rounded up the best family-friendly Earth Day and Earth Month events happening across Los Angeles this April.

Kids Beach Cleanup Event

9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Sat., April 12 | Dockweiler Youth Center

In celebration of Earth Day, LA County Beaches and Harbors is partnering with Heal the Bay to host a Kids Beach Cleanup event at Dockweiler Beach. Their goal is to inspire and educate a new generation on how to create a more sustainable future.

This free event will also feature Can the Trash! booth and an arts & crafts station with reDiscover Center. Don’t miss this great experience for you, your family, and friends to get involved in the community and environment.

NOTE: All cleanup volunteers must print, complete, and submit a signed beach cleanup waiver form in order to join the cleanup. Volunteers ages 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under 18 years old must have a waiver signed by parent or guardian.

Gloves, buckets and trash pickers will be provided (while supplies last), but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own reusable cleanup supplies to reduce our environmental footprint. More info.

Earth Day 2025

Nature Mandalas

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Sat., April 12 | First Congregational Church Of Los Angeles

This hands-on experience invites you to connect with nature and see the beauty in the world around you. Mandalas are geometric designs used as tools for meditation and self-reflection. There are plenty of supplies for everyone! Stop by and see where your inspiration leads you. More info.

Nature Club for Kids: Trees

10:30 a.m. Sat., April 12 | White Point Nature Preserve

Celebrate Earth Month with a tree themed Nature Club at White Point Nature Education Center with Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Kids will do fun tree crafts and even plant a tree in the nature preserve. Ages 3-10 years old.  More info.

The Shops at Rossmoor Celebrates Earth Day

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sat., April 12 | The Shops at Rossmoor

Kids can enjoy ocean-themed crafts, face painting, games and balloon twisting, plus learn ways to help sea life with the Pacific Marine Mammal Center. There will also be photo opportunities with everyone’s favorite Shark Character. Attendees are encouraged to snap a selfie in front of the ocean-themed Earth Day display, from April 4-28, and post on social media tagging @Theshopsatrossmoor on Instagram and using #thinkblueandgogreenshops. Outdoor Recreation & Eco-Fair

12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Sat., April 12 | Memorial Park

The free community event will highlight outdoor activities from “Canyon to Coast” and will commence with an Arbor Day Celebration and tree-planting. Attendees can then enjoy a variety of hands-on activities, including rock climbing, euro-jump, electric bumper boats, live music, free food, and giveaways. The San Dimas Canyon Mountain Rescue Team will offer interactive demonstrations, including first aid training, knot-tying techniques, and essential hiking safety tips, along with a display of their specialized winch truck. Additionally, the Los Angeles County Fire Forestry Division will educate visitors on fire prevention strategies, helping to promote awareness and preparedness for wildfire safety.

New this year, families can continue the adventure with a Family Campout, an overnight experience for registered participants, happening after the fair from April 12 at 3 p.m. through April 13 at 11 a.m. More info.

Earth-Friendly Art

Using recycled materials to make art is a great way to repurpose items and help the environment. In celebration of Earth Day, look closely at landscape paintings that celebrate the beauty of the natural world. Then, put your creativity to use by making artwork out of recyclables like cups, bottle caps and cardboard. Recommended for families with children ages 4–12. More info.

The City of Calabasas Earth Day Celebration/Green Expo

Exhibitors from all over Los Angeles County and Ventura County will be participating in the event to help residents learn more about local programs and initiatives. Calabasas Earth Day/Green Expo was created to be a day of education, celebration, and action for the natural world in which we live. On April 22, 1970, Earth Day marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement. Happy Earth Day Yoga, Beach Cleanup and Lunch & Learn

Stand Up To Trash encourages the community to get involved in the Happy Earth Day Yoga, Beach Cleanup and Lunch & Learn. Through direct participation and awareness-building, the community plays an integral role in protecting marine life from the hazardous impact of litter and pollution.

Schedule includes Yoga (in the grass) at baby Beach from 8-9 a.m., beach cleanup from 9-10:30 a.m. and Lunch & Learn at Ocean Institute at 10:30 a.m., with special guest Jim Serpa. Now retired, Jim served as a Doheny Supervising Ranger for 22 years, patrolling the beach and campgrounds while protecting wildlife both on land, in the air, and in the sea. Earth Day Celebration

At this free event, booths from other organizations join in providing family-friendly activities for the community to participate in. This year’s hands-on activities include Plankton Races, Search for Dolphins and Wildlife and more.

Join the MERITO Foundation as they host the Earth Day Festival in Downtown Ventura in partnership with the City of Ventura Environmental Sustainability Division, and in collaboration with the EV Advocates of Ventura County, and Downtown Ventura Partners on Saturday, April 19 at Plaza Park. Enjoy environmental booths, sustainable goods, local food vendors, EV showcase, live musical performances and more.

The MERITO Foundation has dedicated the event to Blue Planet Earth with an emphasis on the interconnectedness of Earth’s health and Human health. In collaboration with Eco Now, OC’s first zero waste store, Segerstrom Center for the Arts is hosting a community-oriented event aimed at promoting sustainability, reducing waste, and fostering a culture of repair. Weeding at the Native Seed Farm

Looking for a way to give back to nature this Earth Day, April 22? Come help us heal the wildlands within the Landmarks! At Irvine Ranch Conservancy’s one-of-a-kind Native Seed Farm, attendees will learn about one to two (1-2) target species before assisting staff in weeding efforts around our native plant crops. 

For ages 14 and up. All minors (under 18 years of age) must be accompanied by their respective parent or legal guardian. Both parent and their accompanying minor(s) must be registered for the Irvine Ranch Conservancy led activity they wish to attend. More info.

Friends of the LA River: Habitat Restoration Day & Earth Month Celebration

8 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Sat., April 26 | Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Perserve

At Habitat Restoration Day & Earth Month Celebration, 500 dedicated volunteers will join FoLAR to remove 15,000+ gallons of invasive vegetation, restoring 1 acre of land at the Reserve. Volunteers will then participate in educational activities like a nature walk, making native seed balls, hopping aboard our River Rover mobile museum, and exploring informational tables from community partners. Earth Day Habitat Restore & Renew is free, hands-on, and open to the public and will foster both immediate and long-term health in the LA River Watershed.

Restoring habitat along the LA River has major benefits for the entire watershed. Native plants and wetlands filter pollutants, improve water quality, and recharge groundwater, while providing habitat for wildlife. Green spaces cool surrounding neighborhoods, improve public health, and reconnect communities to the River. Earth Day Camp Cleanup: L.A. River Cleanup with LA Waterkeeper

Join LA Waterkeeper for a family-friendly event where volunteers will roll up their sleeves and tackle the aftermath of the rains, clearing away debris and revitalizing the riverbanks.

LA Sanitation & Environment’s signature event is back in full force with over 40 educational (and fun) exhibitors, City vehicles to explore, tons of photo ops, a kids zone, games, and prizes, while supplies last.

In the spirit of environmental awareness, this will be a Zero Waste event. Please bring your own reusable water bottle, and we’ll provide cold, filtered water for you. We’ll also provide cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, and fries from The Habit, until we run out.

Performances will begin around noon with talented local entertainers, and a DJ with us throughout the day to keep things fun. More info.

Earth Day at the Bay
